British Transport Police were called to Osmondthorpe Lane near the Neville Hill rail depot in Osmondthorpe at about 1pm following reports of an incident on the line between Leeds and Crossgates stations.

A spokesman said: “Colleagues from Yorkshire Ambulance Service and West Yorkshire Police also attended and a man was pronounced dead at the scene.”

Officers were yesterday working to identify the man and inform his family.

The spokesman added: “The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
