Seven injured as nightclub’s roof collapses

SEVEN people were taken to hospital after part of a nightclub ceiling collapsed early yesterday.

Four women and three men were treated for suspected minor injuries following the incident at Factory 251 in Manchester city centre.

Hundreds of people were moved out of the club, which is co-owned by former New Order bass 
guitarist Peter Hook and was the former headquarters of Factory Records.

A section of plasterboard measuring five metres (16ft 4in) by 10 metres (32ft 9in) fell on to the floor at about 2.30am, said Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service.

Firefighters went to the scene in Princess Street to assist police and paramedics.

Fire station manager Mark Turner said: “When we arrived approximately 850 people had already been evacuated from the building.

“There were seven casualties – three men and four women – who were being dealt with by ambulance crews and they were taken to hospital with what are believed to be minor injuries.”

One casualty was treated for a spinal injury and another for a neck problem.
