Police want to speak to witnesses after a crash which shut the A1 in North Yorkshire and left three people injured.

The two men and a woman were all in a Mini Cooper which came off the motorway between the junctions at Boroughbridge and Dishforth at around 7.10am on Saturday.

The driver, a 21-year-old man, and a 20-year-old female passenger were both taken to Leeds General Infirmary by ambulance.

A second passenger, a 24-year-old man, was airlifted to James Cook hospital in Middlesbrough.

The northbound carriageway was closed until 11.15am as recovery and investigation were carried out. The southbound carriageway was also briefly closed to allow the air ambulance to land.

Police are appealing to anyone who saw the car before the collision and to anyone who witnessed the crash to contact them.
