Three-year-old girl '˜stable' in hospital after collision with car at Howden

A three-year-old has been airlifted to hospital after being knocked down by a car outside a supermarket.

The child was outside a Co-op store when she was in a collision with a car just after 3.20pm.

She was airlifted to Leeds General Hospital where she is said to be in a stable condition.

Humberside Police said that she is not believed to have suffered life threatening injuries.

Emergency services have been on the scene since the crash in Howden, East Yorkshire, and the road was closed at Bridgegate.

A Humberside Police spokesman said: “We had reports at 3.21pm from somebody reporting a possible road traffic collision on Charles Brigg Avenue.

“Reports are that a young child has been involved in a collision with a car. Police are in attendance.”

An air ambulance was seen landing on a nearby playing field just after 4pm and left about 45 minutes later.

An eyewitness said: “The air ambulance has landed on the Ashes Playing Field nearby. They tried to land in the supermarket car park but couldn’t.”

All road closures in the area have now been lifted, police said
