Viaduct near Skipton in need of urgent structural repairs warns council

An inspection by bridge engineers has revealed that urgent repairs are needed to the Niffany viaduct on the A629 near Skipton after an issue was identified with a surface joint.

Specialist contractors will be on site from 8.30am on Tuesday and it is hoped that they can finish the work in just one day.

One lane will be closed with a manually-operated two-way traffic light system in operation.

North Yorkshire County Councillor Don Mackenzie, executive member for highways, said: “We will be making every effort to keep disruption to a minimum. We apologise for any inconvenience caused but the safety of the travelling public is our first priority.’’
