Video: Man charged with manslaughter following Halifax pub fire death

Detectives investigating the fatal fire in Halifax have charged a man with manslaughter.

Shaun McBride, 31 of Rochdale Road has been remanded in to custody and will appear at Halifax Magistrates Court tomorrow.

The 50-year-old man, caught up in the fire at the Wellington Inn on Rochdale Road, Pye Nest, was being treated at Pinderfields Hospital in Wakefield but died overnight

Detective Superintendent Simon Atkinson, of the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team, said; “The 50-year-old male who was being treated an Pinderfields Hospital has passed away overnight as a result of his injuries following the fire on Wednesday morning.

“We are not looking for anyone else in connection with this offence, and would seek to reassure the public that this is an isolated incident.”

Fire crews from Halifax, Illingworth and Elland were called to the Wellington Inn at 2.21am yesterday.

Police closed the road to allow crews to battle the fire which destroyed the downstairs of the pub.
