Transports aiming to delight

Douglas Miller, chairman South Yorkshire Transport Museum, dusts off a 1943 Dodge United States Army Ambulance ready for an open day on Sunday where over 75 vehicles will be on display.

A Second World War DUKW and a restored fire engine are among the newest exhibits on show in Rotherham, which will be holding its Event Day on Sunday. The DUKW, usually pronounced "duck", was the amphibious truck used during the war for transporting goods and troops over land and water.

In addition to the new exhibits the museum also has one of only two Rotherham motorbuses ever restored, a range of older buses and a variety of transport-related items.

A spokesman for the museum, in Waddington Way, Aldwarke, said the museum had "something for everyone" with heritage bus rides and a much larger display area. If you bring a pre-1973 classic vehicle, you will be given free admission.

Sunday's event will run from 11am until 4pm and, between 11am and 4.30pm there will be a vintage bus shuttle service between Rotherham Interchange and the museum on Waddington Way, Parkgate, Rotherham.
