Travellers to leave Whitley Bridge Cricket Club near Selby, police say

Police have today said that a group of travellers pitched at a cricket club in North Yorkshire will leave by tomorrow.

A number of travellers’ caravans are parked at Whitley Bridge Cricket Club in Eggborough.

Police to provide 'reassuring presence' at travellers' camp on cricket club landSuperintendent Lindsey Robson, North Yorkshire Police’s commander for the York and Selby District said: “We are liaising closely with the travelling community based at Whitley Bridge Cricket Club who have reassured us that they will be leaving the site by tomorrow at the latest.

“It’s not possible to be more specific about a time at this stage.

“We continue to thank the local community for their understanding as we work together to address their concerns and bring the situation to a conclusion.

“Reassurance patrols will continue in the area until the situation has been resolved."

The land owner is progressing their own civil action, North Yorkshire Police said.
