Tree time after a hard slog

Yorkshire cricket star Joe Sayers and Samantha Gibson, from Taylors of Harrogate, celebrate the success of the Runs for the Rainforest campaign by drinking a cuppa in Valley Gardens, Harrogate.

Yorkshire Tea maker Taylors says the campaign with Yorkshire County Cricket Club has helped to save 17 acres of rainforest, the size of the Valley Gardens and Pinewoods forest. Earlier this year, the club teamed up with Taylors, with the company pledging to save a tree for every run scored during 2010.

By the end of the season Yorkshire had notched an impressive 14,343 runs, nearly 5,000 up on 2009.

Director of cricket Martyn Moxon said: “The players have definitely been spurred on by Runs for the Rainforest. We’re all very proud of the outcome.” Picture: Gerard Binks
