Triathlon ticket bonus for Leeds spectators as grandstand capacity expanded

After the original allocation sold out within a week, extra spaces in the Millennium Square stand have gone on sale ahead of the June 12 event.

Leeds’ first ever ITU World Triathlon Series stage will see the likes of the Brownlee brothers swim 1.5km through Roundhay’s Waterloo Lake, cycle 41.5km to Millennium Square and complete a 10km city centre run also ending in the square.

The stand will offer unsurpassed views of the sprint finish, while a big screen will be located opposite showing the live coverage so that ticket holders can stay up to speed with the race.

The women’s race will start at 1pm, before the men’s begins at 3.45pm. Ticket holders can expect four hours of live action.

Meanwhile people all over the city will be able to watch Team GB athletes compete against other world stars along the route or at spectator parks free of charge just weeks before the Rio Olympic Games.

Leeds City Council leader Coun Judith Blake said: “It is great news that this additional capacity in the grandstand overlooking the finish line on Millennium Square has become available, and given the amazing speed the original tickets sold out I’m sure these won’t be on sale for long either.

“The excitement and anticipation for the Columbia Threadneedle World Triathlon Leeds is really building now.”

The race weekend will also see a series of triathlon-related events take place in Roundhay Park on June 11, the day before the main event.
