Tributes to man, 19, killed in holiday fall

TRIBUTES have poured in to a York man, killed after falling from a hotel balcony while on an 18 to 30 holiday.

The body of former Huntington School pupil Iain Knox, 19, was found on the ground at Kavos, a resort on the Greek island of Corfu.

He is believed to have been on his first holiday abroad with friends.

The 18 to 30 website boasts of the resort’s hard-drinking reputation and describes a holiday to Kavos as like “a rite of passage”.

It says: “If it was a film it would be called a coming of age flick and we’ll leave you to decide whether it will be a comedy, a drama or a horror.

“After a week or two here, you’ll be starting nearly every sentence when you’re home with ‘Remember that time in Kavos....’. Roll on the Summer.”

Yesterday, friends continued to post messages on social networking sites in tribute to the 19-year-old.

Lee Walker posted on Twitter: “Been buzzing for my holiday, but gutted that someone I know has died on his is an awful feeling. RIP Iain Knox taken too young xxx”.

Another Twitter user called Lewis Meagor said: “However excited I am about Kavos, the death of Iain Knox can’t be ignored, we’ve got to be responsible while drinking.”

John Tomsett, head teacher at Huntington School, said Mr Knox had left the school in May 2008.

“He was a lovely lad who is fondly remembered,” he said.

“Our thoughts are with the family at this difficult time.”

A Foreign Office spokesman said: “We are aware of the death of a British national in Corfu on June 14 and we stand ready to provide consular assistance to the family.”
