Trio combine forces in Treeton’s revenge

Whitworth Cup winners Whitley Hall met with a comprehensive defeat at Treeton – the club they beat in the final.

The Washfield Lane hosts reached 179-9 with Jim Tasker claiming 4-31 for Whitley, who were rushed out for 126 with three wickets each going to Steve Foster, Muhammad Attari and Greg Norton.

Elsecar’s 200-9, in which Jason Meadows again top-scored, with 50, as Mohammad Ilyas claimed 5-39, was far too many for strugglers Norton Oakes.

They fell for 127 with Shahzad Rana taking 5-31 and Luke Townsend 3-22.

With Uzman Azeem bagging 5-19, Aston Hall contained visitors Whiston to 173-9, Andy Tomlinson making 46 and Joe Fletcher 42. The home club took the points at 176-6, opener Matt Cartwright setting them off to a good start with his knock of 55.

Darfield had seven wickets in hand after passing Coal Aston’s modest 122-9, the main men for the School Street side being Paul Wilkinson (4-29), and Ali Khan, whose unbeaten 67 included nine boundaries.

Wath made 222-9 at Hallam, young opener Will Turner’s 40 followed by half-centuries from Sam Drury and Rob Barlow.

Neil Mountjoy returned 5-61 for Hallam, whose reply of 223-6 earned them the spoils, opener Nick Dymock (118) being the only century-maker of the day. He and Vaidik Raj (50) shared a 147-run start.

Wickersley enjoyed a quick nine-wicket win at home to Tickhill, who were whipped out for 116. Lesroy Weekes and Shahid Hussain claimed three wickets each and opener Matt Burton made 58.

Collegiate had eight wickets to spare after shooting out Division One rivals Barnsley for 86 thanks to James Schofield’s 5-26.
