Trip down the supermarket aisle leads to shopper’s ‘I do’

TAKING a trip down the aisle – a supermarket aisle – led to a romantic proposal for Leeds woman Selina Smith.

Selina, 29, got more than she bargained for when she went to do a spot of supermarket shopping.

She was in the middle of her weekly visit to the Morrisons store at Kirkstall, Leeds, with boyfriend Stewie Wright, 48, when he asked her to marry him.

But it wasn’t an ordinary proposal as her partner had arranged for the big question to be read out over the store’s PA system by a member of staff.

Selina, a receptionist from Armley, said later: “I feel great – although I can’t stop shaking. I thought he might be getting round to asking me some time soon, but not like this.

“It’s something I’m never going to forget – I’ll think of it every time I come to Morrisons, for starters.”

Her boyfriend, who also lives in Armley and works for a windows firm, said: “I’m not generally a romantic person but I wanted to do something Selina would never expect. I knew this would knock her out.”

The staff member who was given the job of reading the proposal was customer services assistant Linda Ramsden.

Linda, who also publicly announced Selina’s ‘yes’ to the store, said: “I was very nervous about doing it, but now I’m just pleased it all turned out so well.”
