Triple crown as Bradford named curry capital again

THERE’S naan better than Bradford when it comes to curries - the city has just been crowned Curry Capital of Britain for the third year in a row.

Glasgow was second place and Wolverhampton third following a three-month voting and judging contest.

Bradford’s bid was helped by local crisp maker Seabrook and its limited-edition new chicken karahi flavour, produced in conjunction with restaurant team member Akbar’s.

For the first time, the annual awards recognised the quality of takeaway restaurants. In Bradford, the top takeaway award went to Sizzlers Pizza and Balti Hut.

Customer restaurant of the year went to Bilash of Wolverhampton with previous winner Shimla Spice of Keighley in second place.

Event organiser Peter Grove said: “This year’s competition was tougher than ever, with 22 cities bidding to be crowned Curry Capital of Britain. We’re delighted to see Bradford chosen by the public.

The win for Bradford takes it total number of victories to four, the same as Glasgow.

Bradford took the title with 83.6 points out of a possible 100. Sheffield came a creditable tenth.
