Triumphant marathon relay teams celebrate with awards

RELAY teams who triumphed in the Plusnet Yorkshire Marathon were presented with their awards yesterday.

Leisure organisation Hassra was first home in the open category in the James Potter Eggs Corporate Relay event, part of the Yorkshire Marathon which took place last month.

The Yorkshire Post is the media partner for the event.

The relay saw each member of the team complete distances of between three and six miles.

Hassra, whose six members completed the 26.2 miles in just over two hours and 46 minutes, was just 36 seconds ahead of James Potter Eggs.

The Jane Tomlinson Appeal – whose runners included former Leeds United and right-back Danny Mills, Paralympic champion Hannah Cockroft and BBC Look North sports reporter Tanya Arnold – came in third.

Law firm Addleshaw Goddard took the mixed category title with a time of two hours and 58 minutes with marketing agency Banana Kick – whose team included Josie Cram, daughter of former world champion athlete Steve –in second. Strensall Striders were third.

In the female category Fast Feet on the Run won in a time of three hours and 50 minutes, beating Dunnington Primary School into second. The Sunday Shufflers, also from Dunnington, came home in third place.

Event lead Lynne Preston said: “The corporate relay brought an extra dimension to the event and gave organisations the opportunity to raise money for charity and make a bit of sporting history by taking part in the very first Plusnet Yorkshire Marathon.”
