True blue: Andrea bids to oust Labour big hitter

A SOPRANO-singing music teacher from Beverley who is hoping to kick Ed Balls out of Parliament has claimed the Shadow Chancellor has “let down” the people of West Yorkshire.

Andrea Jenkyns, 39, the daughter of a former lorry driver, has been selected by the Conservative Party as its candidate in Morley and Outwood – one of the region’s most marginal seats. Mr Balls clung on in 2010 with a tiny majority, after an all-out Tory assault. The Conservatives have again identified the seat as one of their top targets next time round.

Miss Jenkyns, a Tory councillor in Lincolnshire, said: “I come from a regular working Yorkshire family, and know the difficulties of having to juggle a number of jobs and commitments to make ends meet.

The chairman of Morley and Outwood Conservatives, Simon Wilson, added: “This is one of the most marginal seats in the country and Andrea is a candidate who can take on Ed Balls and win.”

Mr Balls was out on the streets yesterday preparing for the London Marathon.
