Trust set to manage historic town hall

A NEW trust is to be formed to manage Skipton’s historic town hall.

The Heritage Trust for the North West, a building preservation trust, will work with Skipton Civic Society and Chrysalis Arts, an arts organisation based in Gargrave and Skipton Town Council to establish the new trust.

It has the support of Craven Council and members have asked for a detailed business plan to be developed. Council leader, Coun Chris Knowles-Fitton said it would: “ensure the hall continues to provide a vibrant community facility for our residents.”

Residents earlier came out in force to try to save the 19th century landmark after the council announced it was considering putting it on the market, deeming it a “huge drain” on resources.

Skipton Town Council, who are aiming to move their offices into the building, are also key partners.
