Tv interviews: Paxman dates for grillings

TV inquisitor Jeremy Paxman will interview David Cameron and Gordon Brown on the last two Fridays of the General Election campaign.

Liberal Democrat leader Nick Clegg has already submitted to a Paxman grilling last week, but there were initial doubts over whether the two other major party leaders would be willing to do the same.

Labour announced at the end of last week that the Prime Minister was accepting an invitation to take part in an interview with the famously aggressive Newsnight interrogator, and he was soon followed by the Conservative leader.

Mr Cameron's half-hour interview will be broadcast on BBC1 at 8.30pm on Friday, with Mr Brown's programme taking the same slot the following week, on April 30.

Both interviews will be pre-recorded earlier in the day, the BBC said yesterday.
