TV presenter relieved by restoration nomination

After facing a “restoration nightmare” TV presenter Sarah Beeny is finally celebrating a dream come true.

Her 97 room mansion, Rise Hall, is one of two Yorkshire properties that have been highly commended for the Historic Houses Association and Sotheby’s Restoration Award.

The listed Georgian property, near Hornsea, was derelict when she and husband Graham Swift bought it 12 years ago. It soon became a money pit beset by planning wrangles but the drama made a successful TV series “Restoration Nightmare”.

The couple spent a small fortune on their crumbling country house and now offer it as a wedding venue.
