TV success fuels business boom at good value B&B

STEVE and Thappanee Long’s guest house impressed on TV and now business is booming after its triumph.

The couple’s bed and breakfast, Foxwood Guest House, in Carlton, near Leeds, saw off the competition to take top spot in Thursday’s edition of Channel 4’s Three in A Bed, with one factor being their reasonable nightly rates.

Mr Long said: “The reaction has been phenomenal. At one stage our website even crashed!”

The TV show sees B&B owners staying at other people’s guest houses and they are asked to pay what they think their stay was worth.

The winner is the B&B owner who receives the highest percentage of what they would normally charge customers.

Foxwood Guest House so impressed its visitors in the show that the couple’s competitors agreed to pay over the odds, giving the hosts a winning figure of 133 per cent.

One of the things that impressed was Foxwood’s nightly rate of £40, something that Mr Long said he was not planning to change after their TV success on the Channel 4 programme.

Mr Long said last night: “It would be unfair on our regulars to put it up.

“Anyway, what we charge gives me enough to pay the mortgage and it gets me to the pub, so why worry?”
