TV teachers set for hit quiz show appearance

Head teacher Jonny Mitchell and deputy head Michael Steer from Thornhill Community Academy will be on Pointless Celebrities on Saturday January 4.

Mr Mitchell told the Yorkshire Post the pair had enjoyed the filming of the show, which is presented by comedian Alexander Armstrong and Richard Osman.

However he declined to say how well they had fared.

Their latest TV appearance follows the huge success of the Channel 4 Educating Yorkshire series which ran for eight weeks from September. The school, near Dewsbury, was chosen as a follow up to an earlier Educating Essex series. Educating Yorkshire attracted bigger TV audiences than the original series - with more than three million people watching the programme at its peak.

It also turned many of the pupils and teachers at the school into stars. The documentary was edited together with footage shot on 64 fixed cameras which had been installed inside offices, corridors and classrooms around the secondary school. 
 It culminated in an emotional final episode in which GCSE pupil Musharaf Asghar was captured on camera overcoming a stutter to achieve exam success with the help of his teacher Matthew Burton, who had been inspired by the film The King’s Speech.

The series was so popular that Channel 4 ran a Christmas special last week and TV presenter Myleene Klass was the special guest at its annual award nights.
