A suspected abduction that sparked a major police response in a Leeds suburb turned out to be a minor domestic incident.

Officers were called to Menston at about 4.50pm on Wednesday following reports that a woman had been dragged into a car by a man in High Royds Drive.

A cordon was set up and rumours quickly spread on Twitter and Facebook.

However, enquiries revealed that fears the woman was being kidnapped were unfounded.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “Extensive enquiries by officers identified the vehicle involved and both parties were traced.

“It was established the incident had been a domestic argument. The woman involved was found to be safe and well. A 29-year-old man from Bradford was arrested on suspicion of assault but later released without charge.”
