Two adults killed in school bus crash

A MAN and a woman were killed and a teenage boy seriously injured when a school bus was in collision with two cars near a country park in Warwickshire and then hit a tree.

The accident involving the single-deck bus carrying 21 secondary school pupils happened at 4pm on the A4177 between Hatton and Hatton Park.

Warwickshire police said the two adults were confirmed dead at the scene. A 16-year-old schoolboy on the bus had to be cut from the wreckage before being airlifted to hospital.

A third adult, a woman, was also seriously injured. Last night she was being treated at University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire.

Four pupils needed further treatment for minor injuries at hospital in Warwick while the remaining 16 were allowed to return home after being checked over by paramedics.

A spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: "It was a serious crash. There was certainly a lot of damage to the coach."

The bus was carrying secondary school pupils, aged between 11 and 18, from Aylesford and Myton schools in Warwick.

Paramedics set up a treatment area close to the scene to administer first aid.

The road remained closed last night while officers investigated.

At the scene, Chief Inspector Lucy Sewell said: "This is a serious collision in which two people have sadly lost their lives and a number of young people have been injured.

"We are committed to protecting people on the roads in Warwickshire and we will be thoroughly investigating the scene of this collision to try to find out the circumstances surrounding how it occurred.

"At this time our thoughts are with the families of those who have lost their lives and we will be ensuring they receive the full support of our family liaison officers."

The seriously injured teenager was knocked unconscious in the crash and had to be freed from the wreckage by firefighters.

An ambulance service spokeswoman added: "Two adults suffered

significant multiple injuries in the crash and were both confirmed dead at the scene.

"A woman from the car sustained chest and abdominal injuries and was transferred by land ambulance to University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire."
