A cordon is currently in place around Jackie Smart Court and in nearby Back Cowper Street where the shooting is believed to have happened. The scene is undergoing forensic examination.

Detective Chief Inspector Stuart Spencer, of West Yorkshire Police Homicide and Major Enquiry Team, said: “Although the investigation is still at an early stage, we believe this has been a targeted attack on the victim.

“We are treating the incident as an attempted murder and are making extensive enquiries to establish the full circumstances and progress the investigation. Two men, aged 20 and 30, have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and are currently in custody.

“The victim has received very serious gunshot injuries and it is only through good fortune that those have not proved fatal.
