Two arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after man '˜run over' in Sheffield

A man was taken to hospital with serious injuries after reportedly being run over in a Sheffield street.

The incident occurred after a mass brawl broke out in Staniforth Road, Darnall, on Sunday at around 7pm.

When officers arrived they found a large group fighting and one man seriously injured.

The casualty was rushed to hospital, where his condition was described as stable yesterday.

Two men, aged 30 and 34-years-old, were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

The 34-year-old has been bailed, while the other suspect remained in police custody being questioned by officers last night.

Extra police patrols of the area have been ordered over the next few days.

Detective Sergeant Cath Abou-Ragheb, of South Yorkshire Police, said: “Officers were quickly deployed to the scene and took control of the situation, dispersing a number of people from the area and making arrests.

“We will not tolerate violent disorder in our city and there will be a high visibility police presence in the Darnall area over the coming days to offer reassurance to the community and to provide an immediate response swiftly should there be any further incidents.

“If anyone witnessed the incident or has any information, I would encourage them to please come forward.”

Police officers sealed off the street for a number of hours while the crime scene was examined and inquiries were carried out.
