Two councils vote to freeze bills

Two North Yorkshire councils have agreed to freeze council tax bills.

Councillors in both Selby and Ryedale have voted that there will again be no increase in council tax bills again this year. The move means that bills for Selby District Council’s part of the council tax bill will be the same as it was back in 2010.

While members of Ryedale District Council have agreed to freeze the district’s part of the council tax bill for a fourth year.

In Selby the decision has been made following work to deliver long-term savings over recent years, in response to a significant cut in Government funding. Since 2010 the council has delivered savings of around £3.8m; including an ongoing saving of £1.4m.

Coun Linda Cowling, Leader of Ryedale District Council, said: “There are more tough times ahead but we are in a much better starting position than many.”
