Two dead in horror road smash near Hull

Two young men have been killed in a road smash in Holderness near Hull, police said today.

The crash happened at about 2.40pm yesterday on Newfield Lane, Lelley, near Burton Pidsea.

It involved a black Vauxhall Corsa that was in collision with a blue Land Rover Defender which was pulling a trailer loaded with a tractor.

The Corsa’s 18-year-old driver, a man from Burstwick, suffered fatal injuries. His name has not yet been released.

His front seat passenger, 19-year-old Bradley Parker, from Burton Pidsea, was also killed.

Mr Parker was a talented rugby league player who had captained Hull FC’s under-16s side and earned a call-up to the England youth squad.

He had recently left Hull FC to follow a new career path on an apprenticeship course.

In a statement, the club said: “He was a popular member of a young squad that went on to produce current first-team players like Jack Logan and Reece Dean, who were his close friends.

“On behalf of everyone involved at Hull FC, we would like to pass on our deepest sympathy and condolences to the families involved in this tragic incident and Brad’s contribution to the club from a young age will never be forgotten.”

The driver of the Land Rover, a 69-year-old man, suffered minor injuries.

Humberside Police are appealing for witnesses to contact them on the force’s 101 phone number, quoting log reference 340 of November 15.
