Two held after bullets found in Huddersfield flat

A MAN and a woman have been arrested after two suspected bullets were found at an address in West Yorkshire.

Police in the Quarmby area of Lindley made the arrests after intelligence from the community prompted a drugs warrant to be carried out by the Huddersfield North NPT at the flat at Hebdon Court.

The warrant was carried out in the early hours of Saturday morning. Once inside the flat, officers found two possible live bullets, suspected of being usable by a Section One firearm. The bullets have been sent away for forensic examination.

A 54-year-old man and a 44-year-old woman were arrested at the address on suspicion of firearms offences and abstracting electricity. They were later charged with the abstraction offence. They will appear at Huddersfield Magistrates on January 4, 2012.

Both are on bail for the firearms matters pending the result of forensics work.

Sgt Simon Short of the Huddersfield North NPT said: “While we did not find any actual drugs at the flat, the discovery of what we believe to be Section One ammunition, and the arrest of a man and a woman for this serious offence is a real result.

“We are waiting for the results of the forensic testing that now needs to take place, but would like to use this opportunity to encourage anyone who has information about suspected drugs or firearms activity in their neighbourhood to contact the police on 101.”
