Two Night Marshals hit by work ban over off-duty pub disturbance

Two members of a team credited with creating a huge drop in alcohol-fuelled violence have been banned from working in a market town after being caught up in a disturbance in a local pub.

Bosses of Delta Security, which runs the Night Marshal service in Selby, have underlined that both employees were off duty at the time of the incident in The Griffin. But Selby Council instructed Delta that neither Night Marshal should work in Selby again.

A North Yorkshire police spokesman said: "Two Selby men aged 21 and 29 were arrested on suspicion of assault. This follows a complaint by a 20-year-old local man that he had been assaulted in the toilets of the Griffin public house on Sunday 19 December.

"Both men have been given adult cautions in relation to this incident."

Selby Council added: "We were made aware of this issue when it happened.

"The individuals concerned are no longer operating in Selby."

According to figures, violent crime in Selby was dramatically cut through piloting the scheme which now also patrols hot-spots in a number of areas including Scarborough, Huddersfield and Tadcaster.
