Two post office services suspended

POST office customers face longer journeys after it was announced yesterday that two lifeline services to the south of York are to be temporarily suspended from next month because of staffing problems.

At present residents of Appleton Roebuck, on Main Street, and Bolton Percy, on School Lane, depend on the subpostmaster of Copmanthorpe Post Office. Outreach services have been introduced by the Post Office as an innovative way to provide customers with access to products and services in communities where a traditional post office is not viable.

It usually involves an established subpostmaster travelling to, or overseeing, services in adjoining communities as well as running their own branch.

However, the subpostmaster at Copmanthorpe has resigned and the new subpostmaster is unable to continue to operate the outreach service, which will cease on October 21.

But Post Office bosses stressed yesterday they were determined that normal service would be resumed as soon as possible.

Meanwhile, Appleton Roebuck customers are advised to use Bishopthorpe or Copmanthorpe Post Offices. Bolton Percy customers should go to Tadcaster or Woodlands.
