Two teenagers die in car crash in East Yorkshire

A 16 year-old girl and a 17-year-old boy both died at the scene of the crash, which was on the old A63 close to the junction with Knedlington Road at Howden at 8.15pm.

Humberside Police say that the green Volkswagen Polo car, in which they were passengers, left the road and collided with a tree.

The driver of the car, a 19-year-old man, sustained minor injuries. He has been arrested and is currently in police custody assisting with enquiries.

A spokesperson added that specially trained traffic officers have been deployed to support the families of the teenagers who died.
