UK divided by the have-yachts

Britain appears divided not so much between the haves and the have-nots but between the haves and the have-yachts, it was revealed.

For the revenue of the superyacht industry in the UK increased in 2010/11.

Revenue rose from just over £420m in 2009/10 to just over £450m in 2010/11, Superyacht UK (SYUK) said.

A total of 54 per cent of SYUK members said they had a higher workload over the last 12 months compared with the same period a year ago, with only 19 per cent experiencing a lower workload.

In addition, 46 per cent reported a higher-value order book in 2010/11 than in 2009/10, with only 26 per cent reporting a lower-value one.

Also, 59 per cent of members rated future prospects over the next 12 months as good or excellent with 39 per cent rating them as OK and only two per cent having negative expectations.

SYUK said there were around 3,650 full-time people working in the sector, which was 2.7 per cent more than last year.
