Arrests over ‘distressed’ woman found in woods

A WOMAN thought to have been taken from an address in Huddersfield late at night was found abandoned in woodland in a distressed state.

Yesterday police said four people had been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after the victim was found near a golf club in Fenay Bridge, Huddersfield.

West Yorkshire Police said they believe the 27-year-old victim may have been taken from an address in Huddersfield some time after 11pm on Saturday and have appealed for anyone who saw a large cardboard box, which officers have recovered from the woods.

The dishevelled woman managed to stop a passing motorist at 0.10am yesterday near Woodsome Hall Golf Club.

She had minor injuries and needed medical treatment.

Detectives are trying to establish how she came to be in the woods.

Two men, aged 25 and 49, have been arrested along with a 17-year-old boy and a 46-year-old woman.

All four were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and remained in police custody last night.

Det Chief Insp Lisa Griffin said: “It is important we establish exactly what’s happened to this woman and how she came to be in the woodland.

“We believe from inquiries so far that she was taken from an address on Penistone Road after 11pm and transported to the woodland in a car.

“A large cardboard box recovered from the woodland may have been visible at the time when the woman was being transported at both locations and it is crucial we hear from anyone who may have seen this box last night.”
