Blur tell crowd of love for London

Britpop band Blur hailed Britain’s success at the 2012 London Olympic Games as they performed to tens of thousands in Hyde Park last night.

Frontman Damon Albarn, who has gone on to set up numerous side projects, including Gorillaz, was joined on stage by guitarist Graham Coxon, bassist Alex James and drummer Dave Rowntree in a performance to coincide with the Olympics closing ceremony.

They opened with their hit Girls and Boys before performing London Loves.

Albarn told the crowd: “And we love London!”

The quartet performed under a replica of London’s WestWay.

Earlier, crowds saw re-formed New Order and enjoyed performances from Bombay Bicycle Club and The Specials.

The Closing Ceremony Celebration Concert was the last in a series of BT London Live shows being staged for the duration of the Games

They began on the night of the opening ceremony with Duran Duran, Paulo Nutini, Stereophonics and Snow Patrol representing British music.

Albarn asked the crowd: “I know some of you are a long, long way away, but can everyone hear me at the back?”

spare a thought for all the
Iranian athletes not able to
compete in the Olympics
and dedicated Out of Time
to them.
