Briton plans coast-to-coast run

A 26-YEAR-OLD Briton is aiming to run 5,000 miles from coast to coast across Canada to raise money for charity.

Jamie McDonald, from Gloucester, plans to complete the equivalent of more than 200 marathons in just 275 days.

Starting his east-to-west journey next month, Mr McDonald is aiming to become the first person to run coast to coast across Canada unaided.

Having spent the first nine
years of his life in and out of
hospital with a rare spinal condition, he is hoping to raise more than £60,000 for Great Ormond Street Children’s Charity and health charity the Pied Piper Appeal.

Carrying a 15kg backpack, Mr McDonald will start his run from St John’s in Labrador and aim to complete his journey in Vancouver on Canada’s west coast.
