Cricketer’s wedding day knocked for six

YORKSHIRE County Cricket Club star Steve Patterson has been caught out by the club’s progress to the money-spinning Twenty20 Champions League.

Patterson has been forced to rearrange his wedding after the club qualified for the tournament in South Africa in October, which carries a first prize of £1.6m.

Patterson, the 28-year-old pace bowler, was to marry fiancee Beth the day before the Champions League started. But with Yorkshire needing to practice and acclimatise ahead of the event, which features the world’s leading Twenty20 clubs/franchises, he has had to move the date to November.

“Once we got through to the Twenty20 Cup quarter-final I always knew there was a potential clash,” said Patterson.

“I’ve had a reserve wedding date in mind and we will now be
getting married in York in November.

“It’s a nice problem to have in many ways because we’ve done fantastically well to get to the Champions League.

“The lads have performed wonderfully in Twenty20 this year and everyone’s looking forward to going to South Africa.”

Yorkshire reached the Champions League by beating Sussex
in the first semi-final at
Twenty20 Finals Day in Cardiff on Saturday.
