Curtain up on six-week play at museum

The school term finished at the weekend but the fun for youngsters across Yorkshire will only just be beginning as a six week festival of playing gets underway.

Playfest, organised by leading children’s museum Eureka! in Halifax, is a summer-long outdoor festival designed to enable families and children to enjoy quality time playing together.

Eureka!’s lawns and outside areas will be occupied by three marquees, where families can engage in a range of special events and activities, as well as the usual fun inside the museum.

A six-week long programme of events has been timetabled, with youngsters able to enjoy a range of activities including learning circus skills, dance classes, totem pole making and music lessons.

Playfest, of which the Yorkshire Post is a media partner, will feature daily themes being be played out in our marquees as well as the main Eureka! building where families can enjoy the festival while learning through play in the permanent exhibitions.

The daily themes will be Move it Monday, centred on physical activity, Tell-a-tale Tuesday, focusing on story-telling, World Wednesday, looking at different cultures from across the globe, Theatre Thursday focusing on performance and Funtime Friday, which as the name suggests will be devoted to playing.

The festival comes as Eureka! celebrates its 20th anniversary.

Eureka! annual pass, unless otherwise stated.
