Deena gears up for recycling

Emmerdale actress Deena Payne donates one of her character Viv Hope’s outfits for the One Day Wardrobe Clearout, with a little help from Marks & Spencer Leeds city branch manager Claire Smith.

The initiative, which will raise money for Oxfam, is part of the ongoing M&S and Oxfam Clothes Exchange which was launched in 2008 and encourages customers to recycle clothes which they no longer wear.

Research found charities miss out on an estimated £1.5bn annually owing to people throwing out millions of items of clothing rather than donating them. The chain called on customers to donate 500,000 unwanted items of clothing and accessories at M&S stores yesterday.

Dannii Minogue, who models for the chain, has been starring in an advertising campaign to promote the event.

People still throw away 391 million items of clothing each year rather than donating them to charity, M&S said.
