Deep freeze to continue as motorists are left out in cold

FREEZING temperatures that have brought disruption to thousands of drivers across the country will continue for the rest of the week, forecasters say.

A deep chill overnight led to accidents and motoring problems throughout the road network yesterday, with recovery agencies such as the AA and RAC helping more than 10,000 drivers each over the course of the day.

Forecasters warn the cold temperatures could continue until later in the week, with snow likely in northern parts of the country today and tomorrow.

The Met Office has issued a series of warnings for icy conditions across Scotland and most of England, including the North, until midday on Thursday.

Black ice on roads has been a major problem, while some motorists were unable to even start their journeys yesterday.

In Yorkshire, outbreaks of rain, sleet and snow are expected today, spreading east over northern parts of the region, though it will be mainly dry with sunny spells, elsewhere.

Further snow, sleet and rain are expected tomorrow, though the showers are expected to ease on Thursday. The Met Office predicts “further rain, sleet and hill snow spreading east” on Friday.
