Desks, chairs and flagpoles to feature in council auction

Flagpoles and a chairman’s seat are to go under the hammer tomorrow as a North Yorkshire council sells off the remaining contents of its former chamber.

Hundreds of items owned by Selby District Council will be auctioned after staff moved into new offices at the New War Memorial Hospital and Civic Centre complex in Doncaster Road on August 1.

Council property services manager Dave Maycock said: “The move to the new civic centre is not just a change of address but an important part of our new way of working, with staff working more flexibly so less need for one desk per person.

“We have taken what we did require, other things have gone to the Civic Society and everything else is in the auction.”

Potential bidders can view the lots at the building in Portholme Road today before the auction tomorrow or online at www.selby.gov.uk

Among the lots are the centre’s vault doors – a 6ft tall solid Chubb door with a cage door behind

Paul Cooper, director of auctioneers CJM Asset Management, said: “There are a number of lots that may interest anyone in the market for a memento of the old civic centre, including the two flagpoles that stand outside the main entrance.”
