DJ Evans ‘in middle of prostate cancer tests’

The presenter talked about it after former Small Faces and The Who drummer Kenney Jones, who himself survived prostate cancer, appeared on his breakfast show in support of a charity campaign.

Speaking on his breakfast show, Evans said: “Prostate cancer, along with colon cancer, of course, is one of the most survivable forms of cancer there is if caught early enough. If not, one of the least.

“It’s a fine line between life and death, happiness and tragedy. And I’ve got to say I’m in the middle of a prostate issue right now.

“I couldn’t stop. I have not been able to stop since Christmas – peeing – or wanting to go – so I’ve gone to the doctor and I’ve done all the internet stuff you shouldn’t do, I’ve gone on the internet, scared myself half to death then gone to see the doctor and you really should do it the other way round. However I’m in the middle of the tests.”

Evans said he used to be “scared” of medical tests but added he had “completely changed my tune on this the last couple of years”, and added: “If you are worried about anything just go and sort yourself out – if not for you, for your family.”

Jones, a supporter of Prostate Cancer UK’s Men United campaign, said: “I was lucky that my disease was caught early – but with one man dying in the UK every hour from the disease, there’s a long way to go.”
