Duchess overcomes her first speech nerves

The Duchess of Cambridge won applause and praise after overcoming her nerves to give her first public speech as a royal, praising The Treehouse children’s hospice in Ipswich, Suffolk, for its “inspirational” work.

Before the speech, the 30-year-old joined a table where siblings of children being treated by the hospice were relaxing, painting small animal figures. Kate then attended a reception for staff at the hospice and confessed to one guest as she touched her heart: “I find doing speeches nerve-wracking.”
