Dying man’s last moments to be shown in new TV series

The moment a dying man takes his “final breath” is being broadcast in a new BBC science series.

The second episode of Inside The Human Body, on BBC1 next month, sees an 84-year-old, known only as Gerald, die at home surrounded by his family. Presenter Michael Mosley said though some may criticise the broadcast, it was important not to “shy away from talking about death and, when it’s warranted, showing it”.

Gerald’s death will be shown in the final episode of the series, on May 12. He agreed to be filmed after a hospice in Kent put the programme- makers in touch with him.

He died on January 1, after vowing to see in 2011.

Mr Mosley said: “We met many wonderful people while making the series, but Gerald was special. We were privileged to share, with his family, his last few weeks and the moment of his final breath.

“The death of a loved one is a hugely significant moment in all our lives, but not something to be feared.
