Embassy date for charity man who wrote to Obama

A MAN who gave up his job and home on his 30th birthday to embark on a charity walk covering the length and breadth of Britain has been invited to the American Embassy to talk about his quest.

Matt Wallace left behind his family, friends and his flat to start the project, during which he will visit 16 Cancer Research centres.

After writing a jovial letter to President Barack Obama about his walk, US representatives in London invited him for afternoon tea next Friday.

With just a rucksack and pop-up tent, Mr Wallace set off from John O’Groats in September and aims to reach Land’s End in March.

In his letter to Mr Obama, he asked whether he would also be willing to film a short video clip. “It’ll literally take you 10 seconds to do it,” he wrote.

Mr Wallace, who got involved with the charity after losing a close family friend, said: “I’m not sure what they have in mind for me at the embassy or even who I’m going to meet but they have invited me there and I’ve got my fingers crossed.”
