England legends share mic with chart stars on World Cup anthem

Take That star Gary Barlow has teamed up with Gary Lineker as well as other past England stars to record the squad’s song for this summer’s World Cup.

Chart stars including Katy B, Mel C and Pixie Lott are among the figures who will also feature on the on the as-yet-unnamed track designed to spur on Roy Hodgson’s men in Brazil.

A group of 12 former England players – including the likes of Sir Geoff Hurst and Michael Owen – were at Sarm Studios in London yesterday where they also worked on the accompanying video.

It was also the location for the recording of the Band Aid single in 1984 and the new promo will be unveiled for the first time during the TV broadcast for Sport Relief night on March 21.

The former players, who between them have played in many World Cups, also included Dion Dublin, ex-England manager Glenn Hoddle, David Seaman and Peter Shilton.

Hoddle has already had his own taste of chart success having reached number 12 in 1987 with Diamond Lights, which he released with Chris Waddle.

Gary Mabbutt, Gary Pallister, Carlton Palmer, Martin Keown and Kenny Sansom also took part in the recording. Although the video will be unveiled on Sport Relief night, the single will not go on sale until nearer the start of the tournament.
