Four arrested over stab death freed on bail

Four people arrested in connection with the murder of a schoolboy who died while “selflessly protecting” his younger brother have been bailed.

Two men, aged 20 and 18, and two boys, aged 16 and 14, were arrested following the killing of 15-year-old Negus McClean, who was stabbed in the chest and thigh in Edmonton, north London, on Sunday night.

The suspects were bailed to return to a north London police station pending further inquiries, the Metropolitan Police said. The 16-year-old must present himself next Monday while the other three were bailed until May 6.

A post-mortem examination gave cause of death as a stab wound to the heart.

It is believed around 13 young black men on bicycles chased Negus before he was attacked.

Negus’s cousin Noel, 25, said he died “selflessly protecting” his brother. Local people said he was attacked by four youths on bicycles after a fight over a BlackBerry phone.
