Froome at the top: Britain retains Tour grip

CHRIS Froome’s Tour de France victory yesterday means Britain has achieved back-to-back wins at one of the world’s most famous sporting events which comes to Yorkshire next year.

The 28-year-old Team Sky rider emulated Sir Bradley Wiggins’s triumph of last year as he completed the final stage of the gruelling event riding along the Champs Elysées in the famous yellow jersey.

Froome was being cheered on by a team from the region.

The next time riders compete in the Tour De France it will be on the streets of Leeds for the race’s Grand Départ on July 5 next year.

A stand promoting the best of Yorkshire produce was in place on the Champs Elysées organised by Welcome to Yorkshire.
