Fugitive search called off as man is arrested

Detectives investigating a double stabbing in Garforth just over two weeks ago have arrested a man on suspicion of attempted murder.

Officers called off their search for suspect Leslie Cunningham after the 40-year-old man attended a Leeds police station yesterday where he was arrested on two counts of attempted murder in connection with the stabbing of a mother and daughter in Bar Lane.

Last night, he remained in police custody being interviewed by detectives.

Angela Gardner, 55, and her 25-year-old daughter, Stephanie, suffered multiple injuries in the attack at Mrs Gardner’s home on the morning of Tuesday August 2.

Police said the Mrs Gardner was still in hospital in a stable condition. Her daughter has already been discharged.
