Garden will bring slice of Yorkshire to 2017 Chelsea Flower show

The garden entitled “Welcome to Yorkshire” will be one of the biggest at the May event and will feature cliffs, a real beach and the sea.

A ruined Abbey will also be constructed at the show, celebrating the region’s many historical buildings. This will be the eighth garden showcased by tourism organisation Welcome to Yorkshire.

It is the creative vision of multi-award winning Sheffield-based designer Tracy Foster, who will also create a water feature for the display to highlight the county’s links to the fishing industry.

The plants, herbs and flowers used will be those which grow around the coastal area while the ruin will be constructed from stone sourced from the same quarry used to build Whitby Abbey in the 13th Century.

Welcome to Yorkshire chief executive Sir Guy Verity said: “We know this will be another show-stopping garden and no doubt will tempt thousands of Chelsea visitors to come and experience Yorkshire for themselves.”
