With an extended congregation of 18m watching his wedding on TV, it was perhaps no surprise that the Duke of Sussex would emerge as the Royal most popular with the British public.

More than three-quarters of the population has a “positive opinion” of Prince Harry, according to a YouGov survey.

The Duke, who is sixth in line to the throne, is followed by the Queen and the Duke of Cambridge, who is third with a 73 per cent rating.

Harry is described as “admirable, likeable, humorous, fun-loving and genuine”, the poll found.

His father, the Prince of Wales, who celebrates his 70th birthday this week, is in seventh position in the ranking of Royals, with a little less than half of the nation having a positive opinion of him.

Charles is behind his daughters-in-law and his father. The Duchess of Cambridge is fourth with 64 per cent, the retired Duke of Edinburgh fifth with 56 per cent and Harry’s wife, Meghan, sixth with 55 per cent.

Charles’ wife, the Duchess of Cornwall is in 10th place with a rating of only 29 per cent, but she outpoints the Earl and Countess of Wessex, Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, and the Duke of York, who rated 22 per cent.

Only seven per cent of those quizzed had a negative opinion of Harry, compared with 20 per cent for Charles and 36 per cent for Camilla.
